The ceremony began with the CES fifth-grade band, directed by Danielle Hommel, performing a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Principal Kristin Slover welcomed family and friends to the big day. She spoke to the students, telling them we are proud of the people they are becoming.
“You are ready for this transition,” she said. “You’ve learned to bounce back from mistakes and to treat others with respect. In middle school, you will have trusted adults who care for you, just as you do here at CES.”
She encouraged the students to continue to believe in themselves.
“Believe in yourself. Be curious. Be kind,” Ms. Slover added. “Middle school is the next step in your journey. We are all so proud of you.”

Superintendent Joe Lenz told the students to continue being their best in middle school.
“As you prepare for middle school, you are beginning an exciting new chapter,” said Mr. Lenz. “There will be new experiences, new opportunities, and new challenges. It is okay to feel excited and even a little nervous. Growth often begins when we step outside of our comfort zones. The important thing is to keep believing in yourselves and continue giving your best every day.”

During the ceremony, some special awards were given out, including the Triple C Award and the Comptroller’s Award.
The Triple C Award, recognizing the courage, character, and commitment of New York State’s outstanding students was given to Savanna Edwards, Andrew Carbone and Jahzara Ayende-Santana.

The New York State Comptroller’s Award is given to students who have shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership through involvement in activities that improve their school and community. Connor LoMedico, Josette Flanagan and Liam Lewis received the award.

After the ceremony at CVMS, students and their families returned to CES to celebrate together. The awesome PTA provided refreshments and photo ops for everyone! It was truly a day to remember.
Congratulations to all! Next stop: CVMS!
