Looking forward with kindness and curiosity, PAK fifth-graders move up

Congratulations to Pakanasink’s fifth-graders who celebrated their achievements with their teachers and family members at their moving up ceremony.

Pakanasink Elementary School Principal Brian Breheny encouraged the students to continue their growth with kindness and friendship.

“As you begin the next chapter, lead with the heart,” said Mr. Breheny. “Use your words to encourage others. Small acts of kindness make a big difference to others. Stay curious. Work hard and believe in yourself. And remember you’ll always be a part of the Pakanasink family!”

Superintendent Joe Lenz talked to the students about their accomplishments and also reminded them of what’s important as they move forward.

“As you move forward, remember to be kind to others, work hard, even when things feel difficult, stay curious, keep learning and have confidence in who you are and who you are becoming,” said Mr. Lenz.

He also reminded them about what makes someone successful.

“Success is not measured only by grades or achievements,” he continued. “It is measure by your character, your perseverance and the positive impact you have on those around you.”

After the speeches, some special awards were bestowed on the students.
The Triple C Award, recognizing the courage, character, and commitment of New York State’s outstanding students, was presented to Gabriel Caicedo, Dominic Nelson and Sinai Parrish.

The New York State Comptroller’s Award is given to students who have shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership through involvement in activities that improve their school and community. The PAK fifth-graders receiving this award were Maxwell Johnson and Marianna Mencilla-Torres.

Three students received the Principal’s Award for extreme effort. They are Jade James, Luciana Garcia and Serenity Sanchez.

After the ceremony, the PAK PTA provided refreshments for the fifth-grade students and their guests, as well as a yearbook for each fifth-grader. The students enjoyed taking photos with their friends and teachers and celebrating together!

“I am so proud of my son,” said one dad celebrating with his family after the ceremony.

Congratulations to our new middle schoolers! We can’t wait to see what you achieve!
