Poetry was in the air at CES on Friday, May 15, as family members converged on the fourth-grade classrooms for the third annual poetry slam.

Not competitive like a traditional poetry slam, this one celebrated each student’s creativity with enthusiastic snapping of fingers, a cool way for the audience to show its appreciation.
A nice touch was having the teachers wear their special “peace, love & poetry” shirts.

The poetry was varied – there were acrostic poems, where the first letter in each line spelled out a word when read vertically; there were shape poems and movement poems, color poems and haiku. Even “guess what” poems where students give hints about something and the audience guesses what the subject of the poem is.

Students wrote about a range of different topics – from pets and siblings, to butterflies and friends, bananas, the moon and sun, and even farms and snails.
Students showed excellent public speaking skills and presented their poetry with much pride!

Afterward, there were refreshments and lots of smiles! Family members were impressed with the quality of their student’s work and so happy to share it with them!
Great job to all! Keep making your beautiful poetry!
