Monday was an exciting day here in our Pine Bush elementary schools.
Members of the Pine Bush High School football team traveled to the district’s elementary schools to celebrate Read Across America Week. They read books to the younger students – classics, funny ones, newer books and books the kids already know and love. A bonus was that the high schools students got to visit their former elementary schools and see teachers and administrators who helped instill the love of reading in them!

The younger students truly enjoyed their guest readers. They had the opportunity to ask them questions about high school and football and being on a team, and ask they did!

Pine Bush varsity football Coach Rich Ormsby organized this event – this was the fourth year for it – seeing the value in it for both the elementary students and his team members. The elementary teachers enjoyed the visit from their former students.

National Read Across America Day falls on March 2, and is the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, the children’s author and cartoonist. It is part of National Read Across America Week, an effort to shine the spotlight on the importance of reading, especially in younger children.
A wonderful day for all!
