Fifth-graders meet the student rep to the board and learn their voices matter

Pine Bush High School senior Jacob Quinonez visited Circleville Elementary School fifth graders this week. Jacob is the elected student representative to the board of education and he was once a fifth-grader at CES. He contacted his former teacher, Robin Conklin, and said he would like to talk with the students and have them represented in what he presents to the board.

The students had many questions for Jacob, asking about how he was elected to this position and what his duties are. Ms. Conklin asked what the students at the high school are talking to him about. Right now, he said, a hot topic is a possible change to the Pine Bush mascot. More to come on that! He said sometimes kids just stop him in the hallway to talk about an issue.

Jacob, who will go into the Marines after he graduates in June, told the students that the board is open to ideas and very interested in what the kids of the district have to say.

It was a great discussion and the younger students are excited to have Jacob come back before the school year is over!
