District shines blue to support World Diabetes Day

The district shined blue on Nov. 14 as we proudly recognized World Diabetes Day!

This day holds special meaning for us as we stand in support of everyone living with the challenges of diabetes—including our own Circleville Elementary School nurse, Kathleen Chamberlain.

A woman in blue scrubs sits on a chair in front of a class and reads a book.

Ms. Chamberlain was the driving force behind this districtwide effort. She rallied nurses, staff, and students across all our schools to join in raising awareness.

At CES, she visited classrooms to share the story “My Body Beeps,” a book about a young girl named Katie whose glucose monitor beeps when her blood sugar drops. Katie feels embarrassed—until she meets a new friend with asthma and learns that differences don’t have to hold you back. Together, they discover the power of friendship, understanding, and support.

A woman in blue scrubs smiles and shows her diabetes monitor on her arm. She is surrounded by fifth-grade girls. One is flexing her arm showing her monitor too.

Ms. Chamberlain also showed students her own glucose monitor and explained how she manages low blood sugar by grabbing a quick snack. She emphasized that while there is currently no cure for diabetes, staying informed and attentive is essential.

A large number of kids arms in a circle, all with blue bracelets for diabetes awareness.

Students had thoughtful conversations about kindness, empathy, and supporting one another—exactly the spirit behind World Diabetes Day.
