The puzzle project has CES classes telling their story

Art teacher Kelsey Skudder is turning Circleville Elementary into a giant masterpiece. In a school-wide “puzzle project,” every student—from pre-K to 5th grade—is creating a unique piece of a larger story.

A fourth-grade girl with long dark hair smiles and holds up a puzzle piece she made.

While Pre-K masters the traditional self-portrait, older grades are diving a little deeper:

  • Kindergarten is mapping emotions through color.
  • Grade 1 is illustrating personal passions within hand tracings.
  • Grade 2 is bringing kindness to life on paper.
  • Grade 3 is research other countries and drawing their symbols.
  • Grade 4 is mixing custom pigments to find their perfect skin tone and writing about themselves.
  • Grade 5 is using symbolism to describe their identities.

A woman leans over to help a second-grade student with a project.

This is a project joining art and library together as Library Media Specialist Katie Galt is guiding the students on their writing and research.

Once finished, Ms. Skudder will assemble these individual works into large puzzles throughout the building—a visual reminder that while every student is unique, they all fit perfectly together.
