They have their wonderful CES memories and now they are moving up

Moving up is such a special day! And this year for the CES fifth-graders and their families, it was very memorable indeed.

The CES fifth-grade band, directed by Danielle Hommel, kicked off the ceremony with a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Principal Kristin Slover talked to the students about how much they’ve grown, not just in size but in curiosity and kindness.

“We are all so proud of you,” she said. “You’ve learned to try your best and bounce back from mistakes. Middle school will bring you new friends and you will have adults who care about you. Take your CES memories with you!”

She gave much credit to the parents and guardians, as well as the teachers and staff at CES.

“Parents you have helped guide these students every step of the way,” said Ms. Slover. “This is your celebration too.”

Interim Superintendent of Schools Amy Brockner, who knew these students when they were just little ones and she was CES principal, talked of their first days at CES.

“When you all walked through the doors of Circleville Elementary for the first time, your backpacks were probably too big for your backs, and your steps were small but eager,” said Ms. Brockner. “And look at you now – confident, capable and ready for what’s next. You’ve grown into leaders, role models for younger students and valuable members of our school community.”

Ms. Brockner also addressed the parents, guardians and family members assembled to celebrate the students.

“You‘ve been the steady hands behind the scenes,” she noted. “The early mornings, the late-night projects, the emotional pep talks before big tests – thank you for being the first and most important teachers in your children’s lives. Today’s success is as much yours as it is theirs.”

During the ceremony, some special awards were given out, including the Triple C Award and the Comptroller’s Award.

The Triple C Award, recognizing the courage, character, and commitment of New York State’s outstanding students was given to Maxwell Petersen and Isabella Rizzo.

The New York State Comptroller’s Award is given to students who have shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership through involvement in activities that improve their school and community. Liberty Gotay, Audrey Freer, Makayla Lombardo and Charlotte Meyer received the award.

Ms. Slover also gave out her Principal’s Awards to Reagan Dreistadt, James Morency, Tanner Fandl, Evan Dugan, Sophia Zhang and Korrie Warren.

After the ceremony at CVMS, students and their families returned to CES to celebrate together. The awesome PTA provided refreshments and photo ops for everyone! It was truly a day to remember.

Congratulations to all! Next stop: CVMS!
