Pine Bush kicked off its summer meals last week with a health fair, a baby calf, giveaways and the first week of our five-day meal boxes.
Many of our local partners were on hand with important health information to share with our families. Kids – and their parents – learned just how much sugar is in the drinks kids and adults love. It was eye-opening! They got to drink a delicious smoothie they helped make by riding the bicycle blender. Kids even got to meet a seven-week-old calf named Rocky. He was a little sleepy but enjoyed being pet by everyone who stopped by.
We had 950 children signed up for the food boxes!
It was a great way to start the summer meal program. Families with children 18 and younger may sign up each week (or all at once) to receive a produce box for each child. This week, the box included cantaloupe, peaches, cucumbers, baby carrots and tomatoes. In addition, each child received bread, milk, cereal, peanut butter, milk and cheese, enough for five breakfasts and lunches.
There is no qualification to receive the boxes. Parents/guardians may just sign up for their children who are 18 or younger. Boxes are distributed on Wednesdays, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. You must sign up by the Friday before in order to be guaranteed your boxes. Whichever boxes are not picked up on Wednesday are given out on Thursday, first come, first served. Time to be announced.
