Students take a deep dive on ocean animals

Jennifer Laubach and Jessica Fobert’s second-grade class at PBE had a special guest recently.

The class has been researching ocean animals. According to their teachers, they have been working SO hard and are so proud of the work they’ve been doing. They used PebbleGo for their research and are currently working on making their own chapter books about their animals.

Their teachers wanted to reward them for their awesome work so they scheduled a google meet with Ms. Fobert’s cousin, Tanner Morris, who is a marine biologist.

“He was a wonderful guest,” said Ms. Fobert. “He shared about how he fell in love with animals when he was young, went to school to learn more about them, and about where he’s worked with many different marine animals.”

The children took turns asking him questions and he had an answer for every single one. They asked about the many different sea creatures he swam with. When asked if he swam with a great white shark, he said “Not yet, but it’s on my bucket list.” When asked about a bull shark, he said that it “was in the plans for this summer!”

This all figures in with their celebration of Earth Day. The students made ocean-themed sun catchers, binoculars to take out on their own nature watch, three-dimensional sea turtles, and read a book about how littering the ocean can endanger ocean animals. It was a really fun and special day for everyone. There may even be a future marine biologist in the group!
