PBE fifth-grade students recently welcomed families and guests to a special poetry share in the school cafeteria, which was transformed into a vibrant spring wonderland. The event celebrated the culmination of the students’ poetry unit, where they explored poetic forms and expressed their creativity through original writing. It also celebrated April, National Poetry Month.
During the event, students proudly shared a poem that truly resonated with them, which they were excited to share with their families. They engaged in analyzing the poem and explored the reasons poets often include figurative language in their work. They sparked conversations about their chosen pieces with their guests.
The experience didn’t end there—families and students then teamed up to create their own “Where I’m From” poems using a provided template, turning the celebration into an interactive and collaborative writing session.
The turnout was excellent, with the cafeteria filled with the buzz of students and families engaging in the art of poetry. It was a memorable occasion that highlighted the power of words and connection.
