Pakanasink Elementary School celebrated National Poetry Month with Poem in My Pocket day. Second graders in Suzanne Parker and Stacie Lazo’s classes started writing poems a few weeks ago and created a book of poems. They chose their name cinquain poems for their poem in their pocket.
A cinquain poem is a poem with a specific structure, using nouns, adjectives and verbs. They use the letters of their first or last name to begin each line in the poem.
The two second-grade classes met up in the morning to share their poems with each other. They shared with friends they already know and some kids they didn’t.
In the afternoon, Ms. Parker’s class met up with Rebecca Patel’s fourth-grade class. The fourth-graders wrote poems about the Earth to celebrate Earth Day.
The students enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing their poems with each other on a beautiful sunny day!
