Here’s to the PBE fifth-graders, moving on to middle school

Let’s hear it for our PBE fifth-graders! Their families and teachers gathered Monday to celebrate all they have accomplished and wish them well in middle school.

Superintendent Joe Lenz shared in the excitement in the Pine Bush High School auditorium.

“Today we celebrate a very special milestone for our fifth-grade students as they prepare to move on to sixth grade,” said Mr. Lenz. “This is a moment filled with pride, excitement and anticipation for all that lies ahead.”

He reminded all who were gathered that today is a new beginning.

“As the singer Natasha Bedingfield reminds us in her song, Unwritten, ‘the rest is still unwritten’,” he said. “Today is not an ending, but the beginning of a new adventure, and each of you has the opportunity to write your own story.”

Principal Eric Winter welcomed all to celebrate the students and to look forward to the opportunities that await them.

“It means so much to your children and all of us that you’re here today to recognize and honor their hard work and accomplishments,” said Mr. Winter. “Your presence makes this moment even more special. I want to thank you for your unwavering support, flexibility and patience throughout the past few years. There have been challenges but through it all, your children have shown perseverance, resilience and dedication. They’ve made it through with strength and spirit. You should be incredibly proud.”

Principal Winter also reminded parents that their role in their children’s lives is still so important.

“As we look ahead, I want to remind you your role is far from over,” he said. “Please stay involved. Encourage high expectations for their academics and their behavior. Monitor their technology, please! Never stop asking about their day, their friendships and their interests. Your guidance will remain essential in these next important years coming up.”
