In Stacie Blaut’s ELA class at CVMS, students didn’t just read a biography for their biography unit—they immersed themselves into the lives of some pretty well-known people.

 

Each student hand-picked a legendary figure they were genuinely curious about. They did a deep dive into the person’s life, making notes about their upbringing and the pivotal moments that defined them. They also tracked the formidable obstacles they faced on their way to success.

To wrap up their biography unit, each student gave a presentation on their chosen subject. First up was Emma who presented on Tom Brady. We learned that Brady was a three-sport athlete in high school and actually was drafted to play baseball out of high school. He chose to go to college on a football scholarship instead. He went on to become arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

 

Other presentations included Albert Einstein, Mozart, Augustus Caesar, John Lennon, Princess Diana, Harriet Tubman, Katharine Hepburn and others. Many students dressed as their character, with Princess Diana wearing her tiara and Katharine Hepburn holding an Oscar.

 

 

At the conclusion of each presentation, Ms. Blaut and the students asked the presenters questions about their lives. The students took on the persona and answered in first person.

 

What a great experience for these students who got to know so much about someone they admire and then had the opportunity to share that with their peers. Great job!
