Combining math and art, we have Pi-lines!

Andrea Urmston’s fourth graders got really creative, combining math and art on Pi Day – March 14.

A wall with about 21 pieces of art on it. There is a yellow sign that says City Pi Line with the pi symbol.

On graph paper, students drew a building as high as each of the first 20 digits of Pi, in order, from left to right. Then they got creative in designing a pi-line (or skyline) at sunrise or sunset. Some added many elaborate details!

It was a great – and fun – way to incorporate math and art!
