At Pakanasink Elementary school, Library Media Specialist Aubrey Zamonsky had students in grades pre-K through five participate in the Winter Reading Challenge over the winter break.

Students at PAK were challenged to read for 20 minutes daily and participate in at least 10 of the reading challenges. Students could pick from over 30 different reading tasks like wear a hat while you read, read to a stuffed animal, read with a family member, read in a tent, read at the public library etc. All of these activities allowed families to get into the spirit of reading and see how much fun it is to read.

We had 120 students participate in this challenge! All of the students who participated received a book of their choice to keep thanks to our wonderful Pakanasink PTA, and some hot cocoa and candy canes. The students can certainly cozy up with their book and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa this winter.

“Here at Pakanasink we want all our students to be lifelong readers,” said Ms. Zamonsky. “Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the winter reading challenge.”
