EJR celebrated Diversity Week recently, with activities for all students to better understand the world and the diversity of their school.

Several family members came in to talk about their homelands. The students learned about life in Ukraine, Mexico, Palestine, Russia, Holland and St. Lucia. They learned about the customs, food, music, currency, games and much more from each country! They also traveled to the time of the American Revolution to learn about life in the colonies before our country came into being.

A special presentation was provided by Raquel who talked to the students about Down syndrome. She is from a large family and her youngest brother has Down syndrome, a genetic condition caused by an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. Raquel explained the science of chromosome 21 in a way that fostered empathy and understanding.

The students loved seeing pictures of the countries and hearing about what it’s like to live there.
