Beautiful art and a lasting legacy are the results of the 2025 Summer Fine Art Academy

Each of the Pine Bush High School summer academies has something special about it. The Pine Bush Fine Art Academy is, without question, the academy whose students produce the most beautiful projects.

This year, seven extremely talented and creative students graduated from the fine art academy. Their projects ran the gamut from creating pottery to making landscapes to laser printing to mural painting, and much more.
Run by Julie Palinkas and Janice Barth, and assisted by Jenna Tracy, the summer fine art academy gives students the opportunity to delve into techniques they otherwise wouldn’t during the regular school year class periods.

PBHS Principal Aaron Hopmayer addressed the students with awe.

“You guys are beyond awesome,” he said. “What you have produced in three weeks, and your legacy, cannot be understated.”

The legacy he spoke of is a mural they created in a small room at Pakanasink Elementary School. Ms. Barth explained that the project started back in March when they were asked to have academy students create a soothing space intended to help the elementary children manage their emotions and find comfort, when needed. They cleaned and prepped the area, which has no windows. The group spent two full days at PAK, bringing this landscape to life. It has wispy clouds, green trees, sunshine, and a stream running through it. The color scheme is amazing!

“This project took a lot of creativity,” Mr. Hopmayer noted.

He thanked the teachers for their leadership and dedication to the students, and thanked the students for coming to school in July and doing such amazing work. He also had high praise for the parents and guardians who encouraged their kids to come to school in the summer to enrich their talents.

Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Amy Brockner talked of their shared passion for artistic expression.

“Over the past weeks, we’ve seen that passion come to life,” said Ms. Brockner. “Your commitment, imagination and growth have been inspiring. More than just developing your skills, you’ve learned how to persevere – how to move past creative obstacles, find strength in failure and face the unknown with confidence.

A high school girl stands in front of several pieces of art she made. She is wearing a purple shirt, glasses and has longer brown hair. She is smiling.

“The abilities you’ve sharpened here – imagination, problem-solving, resilience – are powerful tools in any path you choose,” said Ms. Brockner. “Whether you go on to become artists, teachers, designers or pursue something altogether different, let your creativity and courage continue to guide you. “

Their works of art were on full display, and family and friends were impressed with them all.

Sitting on a table are clay vases and bowls in many colors and designs, made by students.

“Congratulations on reaching this milestone,” said Ms. Brockner. “The world needs your vision, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll create next. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, and may your journey be bold, inspired and boundless.”
