Fourth-graders at PBE gathered in the cafeteria to welcome members of the local American Legion. Seven Legion members introduced themselves to the students, telling them about their backgrounds and their history in service to our county.

The veterans showed a video and then talked to the students about why it’s important to be active in their community, their school and their country. To have their voices heard.

They discussed what freedom is and implored the students not to take those freedoms for granted. It’s important to protect our country and our freedoms because others want to take them away, they said.

Finally, the group watched as the men properly folded an American flag into a triangle, with respect and gratitude.
