Superintendent Joseph Lenz and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Amy Brockner presented Elizabeth Halsey-Sproul a certificate of service on Thursday, Aug. 14 – her retirement day – recognizing her 14 years with the Pine Bush Central School District.
Ms. Halsey-Sproul, principal of Edward J. Russell Elementary School, has been at EJR her entire time in the district, first serving as assistant principal for six years and then as principal for the past eight years.
During that time, she has most definitely had an impact on her many students and staff.
“We appreciate all of Elizabeth’s years of dedication to Pine Bush,” said Superintendent Joseph Lenz. “She’s made a lasting impact on our district and especially her students. We wish her the very best in her retirement.”
Moira Roberts, who retired from her teaching position at EJR in June and was the building representative, said Ms. Halsey-Sproul made her and many others better teachers.
“When Elizabeth walks into a room and you’re teaching, you just stand a little taller,” said Ms. Roberts. “She expects the best from you. She pushes you to be the best teacher that you can be. She exudes professionalism down to the way she dresses. ”
Missy Bonaface agrees.
“Elizabeth always encouraged her staff to be the best they could be. She’s a strong problem solver, and ran a very well organized building.”
Ms. Halsey-Sproul is an excellent communicator with a dry sense of humor, Ms. Roberts added. And she advocated for all her students and staff.
“She supported me, and advocated for my class, the multi-age classroom,” said Ms. Bonaface. “She is there for you professionally and personally. I wish her all the best on this new chapter and will miss her very much!
When Ms. Halsey-Sproul and Ms. Roberts had to work on issues that may not have been the easiest, it was never an issue, according to Ms. Roberts.
“We had to do hard things together and I was always comfortable talking to her about things,” said Ms. Roberts. “She always worked to solve issues.”
“I have had the pleasure to work with Elizabeth for 14 years,” said Kimberly Godduhn. “During that time, her leadership has helped us get through many difficult times. I appreciate all she has done to make EJR what it is today. As she begins this next chapter, I wish her nothing but happiness. She will be missed.”
New teachers also praise Ms. Halsey-Sproul’s leadership and guidance.
Lauren Miksa just completed her first year of teaching at EJR.
“Elizabeth has strong leadership qualities, which have truly made a difference in my first year,” she said. “Her guidance and support have been instrumental in helping me grow both professionally and personally. I’m incredibly grateful for the time, wisdom, and encouragement she’s shared with me.
“Elizabeth, as you head into retirement, I hope you know just how much of an impact you’ve made, not just on me, but on so many others,” Ms. Miksa continued. “You’ve done your job, and you’ve done it exceptionally well. Wishing you all the very best in this exciting new chapter!”
That wish is echoed by so many here at the district. We thank you and wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement!
Assistant Principal Joe Prestianni takes the helm at EJR, with Alyson Callahan as EJR’s new assistant principal. Congratulations to all!
