District voters approve 2026-2027 school budget

Pine Bush Central School District voters approved the $153,150,596 budget, with nearly 60 percent of voters supporting this 2026-2027 spending plan.

Phillip Salinardi and incumbent Kristi Kheiralla were the top two vote-getters in the field of four for the two board of education seats. Kheiralla retains her seat on the board of education and will begin her fourth term. Salinardi will take office in July. Marc Morello and Starla Ciarelli finished third and fourth, respectively. Cara Robertson did not seek reelection.

A blue and gold PB in the corner. Text says Thank you voters! Pine Bush voters approved the 2026-2027 school budget! Thank you for supporting our students! There is a blue heart on the bottom left.

“Year after year, this community shows up for our district, and we couldn’t be more grateful,” said Superintendent Joe Lenz. “This year is no different. Our students are the ‘why’ behind everything we do. Thanks to your continued support, we can provide the environment and resources they need to thrive. You are a vital part of their journey, and we thank you.”

“Crafting a budget is all about balance—prioritizing what our students need while respecting the investment of our taxpayers,” said Brian Weir, assistant superintendent for business. “We see the deep pride this community has in our schools, and we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence side-by-side with you.”

Lenz thanked all the candidates who ran for the board,

“I want to thank all our board candidates,” said Lenz. “Serving on a school board is a major volunteer commitment, and we deeply appreciate your willingness to dedicate your time and passion to supporting our students, staff, and district. We thank you for your leadership and community spirit. Our community is stronger because of you.

“I look forward to continuing our work with Kristi and welcoming Phil to the board,” Lenz continued. “We are so fortunate to have them as leaders in our school community.”

This year’s budget included a tax levy increase of $2,200,376 or 3.42 percent. This budget increases spending by $3,300,653, or 2.2 percent. The state budget has not yet been approved but the estimate is for just a 1 percent increase in aid. All existing programs are maintained in this budget. Twenty-three positions have been eliminated through attrition. Two technology integration specialists and a technology teacher will be added.
