EJR students keep their reading skills sharp over winter break

EJR Elementary students took part in the winter reading challenge. What a great job they did! Library Media Specialist Heather Mowen challenged the students to read daily – 10 to 15 minutes for students in grades kindergarten through two, and 20 to 30 minutes for students in grades 3 to 5.

A grid with 20 blocks. Each has a suggestion for reading, Read to a stuffed animal., read with a flashlight, read on a blanket, read to a family member, read a chapter book, read a magaziine.

They were to choose 12 activities, designed to make their reading fun and with a little challenge. For example, read in your bed, go to the library to read, wear gloves while you read, read about your favorite animal, etc. They were fun activities, all while reading.

The purpose is to help develop the students’ reading skills while also fostering a love for literature. And to have some fun!

Three large rows of elementary kids stand on or near a stage. They are smiling.

Congratulations to all who participated and achieved their 12-day reading goals!
