Students and staff at Pine Bush Elementary School wore green last Thursday to show support of Kabuki Syndrome Awareness Day. It’s an important cause to the school since third-grader Ashlyn Cardone lives with Kabuki Syndrome.
The day started off pretty special for Ashlyn and her twin sister, Avery, when they were picked up and driven to school in a Pine Bush fire truck, complete with police escort.

Their school was awash in green, the color representing Kabuki Syndrome, with many students and staff wearing it to show support for Ashlyn and her family.

Crispell Middle School and EJ Russell Elementary School also showed their support by wearing green!

Kabuki Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder. People with Kabuki may experience the following: mild to moderate intellectual impairment, growth delays, low muscle tone, feeding difficulties, heart defects, skeletal abnormalities, vision and hearing impairments, and/or communication delays and behaviors similar to people with autism.

Each year, attention is paid to the disorder as a way to educate kids and adults helping everyone respond with compassion and understanding.

Ashlyn certainly felt special and supported Thursday, as she should! Her classmates and teachers, Michele Galvin and Loren Soltish, were excited to show their support and celebrate her!
