Seventh graders in Lizbeth Guevara’s Spanish class at CVMS recently wrapped up a fun and informative project about Spanish-speaking countries and their flags. Along the way, students sharpened their research and presentation skills.

For the month of October, Senorita Guevara’s classes focused on the 21 Spanish-speaking countries in the world, Spanish language phonetics and the super 7. They were also given a project to do at home. Each student was assigned a Spanish-speaking country to research. They put together a presentation about that country that included: Three fun facts about the country; create that country’s flag with whatever materials they chose; explain what the colors on the flag symbolize; and finally present their findings to the class.

The students were eager to make their presentations. Some facts were quite interesting. Did you know that Mexico is the birthplace of chocolate! Ancient civilizations used the cacao plant as currency. Panama City is known for its impressive skyline that features some of the tallest skyscrapers in Latin America. More than 100 Major League Baseball players come from the Dominican Republic!

The flags were so colorful and amazing. Learning about the symbolism was especially interesting. This project will be one they won’t soon forget.
Great job to all!
