Dear Pine Bush Families,

I hope that your summer has been filled with fun, rest, and time with friends and family. It is with great excitement and gratitude that I write to you for the first time as the new Superintendent of Schools. I am honored to serve this community, and I look forward to partnering with you in support of all our students.

This year, our districtwide theme is Stronger Together, a reminder that when we collaborate, support one another, and stay connected, we create the conditions where every student can thrive. Together, we will build on Pine Bush’s strong foundation of academic excellence, caring relationships, and a shared commitment to success.

A central focus for the 2025-2026 school year will be strengthening literacy across all grade levels. Literacy is the cornerstone of learning and essential for long-term success. Whether through classroom instruction or other programs, every adult plays a significant role in helping them become confident readers and effective communicators.

This year also brings a state-mandated change regarding student use of personal internet-enabled devices. Beginning this fall, New York State law requires a bell-to-bell ban on cell phones and smartwatches in all schools.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • All personal internet-enabled devices (phones, smartwatches, etc.) must be off and stored in lockers during the school day at the middle and high school levels.
  • Elementary students will continue to store devices in designated classroom locations, as they have in the past.
  • Phones will not be accessible during lunch or study halls.
  • Students will have access to district phones in designated areas, such as the main office, when needed.

We understand this represents a significant shift and are committed to helping students adjust successfully. Thank you for your support as we create a learning environment that helps students stay present and engaged.

I am truly excited to begin this school year alongside our dedicated staff and supportive families. Thank you for the trust you place in us every day. Let’s make this year one of growth and shared success because we are stronger together.

Sincerely,

Joseph Lenz
