Wellness Club makes meditation jars

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned over the past few years is to take care of ourselves. When you need time, take it. Decompress. Stress does so many harmful things to our bodies.

Kristin Raucci sends that message to students throughout the high school and invites them to the Wellness Club each Tuesday after school. Last week, the group made meditation jars. With the soothing music playing in the background, a group of about a dozen students glued their cotton round to the jar, poured their hot water, a few squirts of glue, food coloring, glycerin and various sizes of glitter into the jar and admired their creation.

Shake it up and the glitter falls gently to the bottom. It floats for a while, glistening, and falls at different times depending on its size.

For the final touch, essential oil was dabbed on the cotton, giving a calming scent to the jar.

This Tuesday and Wednesday, May 23 and 24, Ms. Raucci is presenting “Taking Tests Peacefully” to help reduce test anxiety and test prep. She is doing this a little early because there is a June 1 Regents exam. All students are invited, as they are any day the Wellness Club is offered. The club meets at 2:25 in room 217. Stop by and learn how to peacefully take your tests.
