Students learn about life on a farm during all four seasons

EJR first and second graders had a visit from Claudine Sullivan, a master gardener volunteer from Cornell Cooperative Extension, as part of their literacy program.

Ms. Sullivan read “Seasons on the Farm” by Chelsea Tornetto, a book that takes young readers on a rhyming journey through a year on a family farm. The farmers are busy all year round, planting, harvesting, taking care of animals, making pies, and tending to their equipment.

Three first graders sit at a table drawing art projects.

After reading, the students made their own little wheel, showing what the farmers do during the different seasons. This is part of agricultural literacy week from CCE, to introduce kids to farming so they see just where their food comes from. The students loved the story and especially making their Four Seasons on a Farm wheel!

A first-grade girl smile as she holds a paper plate on which she drew pictures depicting what a farmer does during each of the four seasons.
