Students enjoy and celebrate World Read Aloud Day at PBE

Stacey Venzel’s fourth graders at PBE enjoyed some cozy fireplace reading for World Read Aloud Day!

World Read Aloud Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday in February. This year it was Feb. 7. LitWorld founded World Read Aloud Day in 2010 to celebrate the power of reading aloud to create community and amplify new stories. It is also a vehicle to advocate for literacy throughout the world.

Five fourth-grade girls sit on the floor in a row reading their books and looking up toward the camera.

The idea for the day came from a child who wondered why we don’t have a birthday party for reading aloud. Reading aloud has so many benefits for children, including improved academic performance, critical thinking and problem-solving skills; stronger language and communication skills; positive socialization and empathy; increased concentration, memory, creativity and self-discipline; and decreased screen time! Wins all around!
