Fall learning is in full swing at CVMS! Sixth-grade students of Andromeda Blue Academy recently participated in an engaging, hands-on Pumpkin Math experience that brought together math, science, teamwork, and a little seasonal fun on such a beautiful day!
Working outside collaboratively in teams, students explored real, large pumpkins while practicing essential measurement skills. They measured each pumpkin’s height, length, and circumference, determined its weight, and made predictions about whether it would sink or float. Students also investigated the pumpkins’ physical characteristics, including their stems, and estimated and counted the number of seeds inside.

Through this interactive learning experience, students had the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to real-world objects, make observations, test predictions, and use their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Working in teams also encouraged communication, cooperation, and shared responsibility as students compared their findings and learned from one another.
Pumpkin Math is a wonderful example of how learning can be both meaningful and memorable! By combining mathematics and science with hands-on exploration, Andromeda Blue students participated in an awesome learning experience that encouraged curiosity, collaboration, and discovery.
A special shout-out to Andromeda Blue teachers: Ms. Kirby (Science) and Mr. Villani (Math) for creating such an engaging, hands-on learning experience for our students! Their collaboration highlights the power of interdisciplinary learning and the meaningful connections students make when teachers work together to bring concepts to life. Thank you for making learning interactive, purposeful, and fun while encouraging our students to think critically, collaborate, and explore the world around them!
At CVMS, we are proud to provide opportunities for students to learn by doing, think creatively, and grow together—one pumpkin at a time!
What did we do with the pumpkins when we were done? Our teachers stayed after school and showed their talents in pumpkin carving! Students then voted on their favorite…
