Pine Bush swimmer Ella Humphrey signs with Division I Monmouth University

The crowd was there for Ella. Teammates and friends, coaches and family showed up as Ella Humphrey signed her letter of intent to swim for Division I Monmouth University.

Coach John Barth spoke genuinely of Ella, who is a standout in the pool, the classroom and in life.

“It is an honor to stand here and recognize an athlete who represents everything a coach could hope for and Ella is that athlete,” said Coach Barth.
“From the very beginning, Ella set herself apart, not just with her talent, but with her work ethic. There were plenty of long practices, tough sets, lots of school work and Ella never backed down. In the classroom, Ella showed that same dedication. It takes discipline, focus, and sacrifice and Ella handled it all with humility and consistency.”

“In the pool, the results speak for themselves. School records don’t just happen,” he added. “They are earned through years of commitment, attention to detail, and a relentless drive. Ella didn’t just chase excellence, she made it her standard.”

Ella holds the school record in the 100 breaststroke, which is her best stroke, according to coach. She also excels in the sprint freestyle events along with backstroke.

That is all very important. But it is the person Ella is that stands out most to her coach.

“But what stands out even more than the times, the records, or the accolades is the person. Ella is a great teammate and captain. She is thoughtful and kind and ready to help those around her be better.”

Coach Barth shouted out Ella’s support system, noting how important her family is in this journey.

“The encouragement, the sacrifices, the unwavering belief in her, all of you have helped make this moment possible, and it shows in who Ella has become.”
