Pine Bush SEPTSA marks Developmental Disability Month

March is Developmental Disability Month and the Pine Bush Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association (SEPTSA) is spreading awareness and acceptance.

Last year, Pine Bush SEPTSA partnered with our incredible local businesses and the talented National Art Honor Society (NAHS) students from Pine Bush High School, to bring autism awareness to our community by painting gradient puzzle pieces and infinity symbols on storefront windows throughout Pine Bush, Bullville and Circleville. The visibility, support, and love shown meant more than we can put into words.

This year, after listening to meaningful feedback from families, SEPTSA is expanding their focus to Developmental Disability Awareness in March.
So, we’re widening the lens. 🧡

Developmental Disability Awareness Month is about celebrating the capabilities, achievements and contributions of people with developmental disabilities while promoting inclusion, education, accessibility, and creating a community where all individuals feel seen, valued, and supported.

Pine Bush SEPTSA has distributed orange ribbons to mark Developmental Disability Awareness Month and the symbol has been painted on businesses windows throughout the area.

“It’s a small symbol, but a powerful one,” said Carmen Trabal, president of Pine Bush SEPTSA.

The heart behind this effort is simple: listen, grow, and do better together.

“We are incredibly grateful to the NAHS students, Mrs. Barth and Mr. Donahue for their continued support in working with us once again, and the businesses who continue to stand beside SEPTSA and our families,” said Ms. Trabel. “Your willingness to once again open your doors to this idea, helps build a more inclusive community within our school district and beyond. Thank you for helping us turn awareness into action.”
