Generations Connect over art and conversation at Crawford Senior Center

Janice Barth and our talented National Art Honor Society students spent some time recently at the Crawford Senior Center. The mission: creating custom bookmarks and coasters while connecting and swapping life stories.

Seniors picked their favorite patterns and worked side-by-side with students to bring their projects to life. But there was much more happening. The room was buzzing with talk of future plans, artistic passions, and, as you might expect, the seniors asking about boyfriends and girlfriends.

A high school girl stands at a table of senior citizens smiling and helping them do art projects.

By the time the Mod Podge dried, the seniors walked away with handmade souvenirs and, more importantly, students and seniors made new friends from a different generation. It was a masterclass in community.

A woman holds up a bookmark she made. She is smiling.

A group of 10 high school kids gather around a round table with senior citizens sitting at it. Everyone is smiling.
