Fall fun day gives first-grade students at PAK a terrific learning experience

The students in Sarah St. Lawrence’s first-grade class at Pakanasink had a fall fun day recently! They learned about fall and pumpkins. With the help of ENL teacher Debora Hansen, they used all five senses to describe pumpkins and even brought some ELA into it by coming up with adjectives about pumpkins that they’ll use in their writing!

A woman with dark hair smiles as she cuts open a pumpkin. Around her are five first-grade students smiling and waiting.

A favorite fall fruit is an apple! The class had an apple tasting with three different kinds of apples from which to choose their favorite. To do that, they got some math involved and created a bar graph. They used math vocabulary like “more than” and “least” in this project, which was both tasty and informative.

Six first grade students sit at their desks with paper plates in front of them. On the plates are slices of apple. They are tasting them.

A woman with dark hair pulled back writes on a large sheet of white paper hanging on a board.

Finally, they fit in a birthday celebration to this busy day.

Learning sure is fun!
