The EJR PTA hosted a coin war fundraiser that was a huge success! Here’s how it went: students in each grade were tasked with collecting coins to deposit into their grade’s container. Collecting pennies for their grade gained points for them. Silver coins and bills were to be deposited in other grades’ containers to take points away from them. The grade with the most points won ice pops at recess! Students added their money each lunch period for a week.
When it was all counted, families donated $3,812.53 to the PTA, which will contribute to field trips for each student. And the big winner – Grade 3!
All of this was so much fun, but even more was yet to come! To announce the winning class, Principal Joe Prestianni and Assistant Principal Aly Callahan dressed as Maria and Luigi, respectively, and had their very own race – running and on scooters – out in front of the building. Students lined the way and weren’t shy about picking sides, with Team Luigi in green and Team Mario in red. They cheered and rooted Mario and Luigi on. Luigi was the winner and, because the students raised more than the goal of $3,000, Ms. Callahan had the honor of giving a whipped cream pie to Mr. Prestianni’s face!

Kudos to the parents, guardians and kids who participated! Great job to the PTA for putting it all together. And big thank you to Mr. Prestianni and Ms. Callahan for being such great sports.
