Back in 2023, Pine Bush High School student Adam Dillon went on a trip to Boston. He was on the brick path and came across the Old North Church. There was a wall of dog tags displayed that touched him.

“I had never seen anything like that,” said Adam, whose dad served in the military.
It sparked an idea that culminated in his Eagle Scout project – a local wall of dog tags. He was taken by the symbolism of it – blank dog tags that symbolized the whole of the military rather than the individuals.

“This is for everyone who served in all wars,” he said. “We should remember and respect those who served, your loved ones and those from the community around you.”

Adam said some people have expressed interest in adding their dog tags to the wall. He is open to that!

As is the case with all Eagle projects, the planning is a big part of the project. He started planning last September. He approached the Pine Bush American Legion Commander Dan D’Ambrosio about building the wall of dog tags at the Legion building. D’Ambrosio was all in.

With help from family members and friends, Adam started the project in late April, setting the posts in the ground and pouring concrete when the weather was warmer. He received donations from Tractor Supply and more than 2,000 dog tags. It is truly a poignant memorial for all to see. He completed it just before Memorial Day.

 

Adam, who will be a junior at PBHS this September, has been a Boy Scout since he was just five years old. He’s loved scouting through the years, saying it gives him many opportunities to express himself. He’s enjoyed earning merit badges.

Adam has a keen interest in flying, graduating from the summer Aviation Academy and hoping someday to attend the Air Force Academy or join the National Guard. He was a member of the Law and Leadership College program this summer. Adam enjoys English, Spanish and social studies in school. In his down time, he has many interests including fishing, skateboarding, camping, and most anything else outdoors. He is also a photographer, focusing on nature, and loves to draw.

 

Now, he has built a memorial for all in our community to see, honoring all who have served our nation.
