District partners with League of Women Voters for voter registration at PBHS

Voting and voting rights are the foundation of our democracy. Our nation is stronger when everyone has a voice in the political process. It is with that sentiment in mind that our district promotes voter registration in Pine Bush High School.

A high school student with dark curly hair wearing a red and black check shirt fills out a form while a woman with white hair helps him out.

A large vertical sign with an American flag on it says Register to vote here.

This year, through the Orange County Board of Elections, Pine Bush welcomed Ann Toner of the League of Women Voters, to give students 16 and older the opportunity to register. Over two days, Ms. Toner, who is no stranger to Pine Bush High School as she served as assistant principal there, and her partner Judy Peterson, registered nearly 100 new voters!

A high school student with curly dark hair leans over a table and fills out a form on a clipboard. A woman with white hair points to something ona piece of paper.

They had help, of course, with members of the National Honor Society walking around the cafeteria talking to their friends about the value of registering. Those who are 16 could register in advance and will be able to vote when they are 18.

A high school student carries a red, white and blue sign that says Register to Vote as he talks to three students at a table.

Two high school students smile as they hold a blue and gold sign that says Register to Vote.

This is all part of the district’s policy to promote voter registration to its students. The registration event is an annual happening. Shout out to PBHS English Department Chairperson Kelly Cooke for coordinating the event.

And don’t forget to let your voice be heard – vote!

Several high school students complete forms at a table.
