Building leaders is a focus at EJR

As part of EJR’s focus on the four core values of respect, responsibility, pride and cooperation, students in all grade levels have been participating in leadership assemblies. Assistant Principal Anthony Muia presented the good habits of successful leaders.

  1. Be Proactive – take initiative, make good choices, and always try your best.
  2. Begin with the end in mind – Plan ahead and set goals, be prepared
  3. Put first things first – work first, then play
  4. Think win-win – be a problem solver, think about what others want as well as what you want, be kind and think of others
  5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood – listen to other people’s ideas and try to understand their point of view
  6. Synergize – together is better; get along with others, work well in a group, value ideas and strengths of others
  7. Have balance – take care of yourself; eat right, exercise, get enough sleep; balance work, family, friends and rest.

Habits, Mr. Muia explained, are things people do a lot. Some are good and some are bad. These good habits of leadership will bring them success.

The students worked together during the assembly to discuss how to be a leader and then shared their ideas with the group.
