Appointments

Instructional

Melissa Karban,  who holds a Pending Initial certificate in Earth Science 7-12 and Pending Emergency

COVID-19 certificate in Earth Science 7-12, be appointed to the probationary position of a 1.0 FTE Teacher

Secondary in the tenure area of Science for a four year probationary period commencing September 1, 2020

and ending August 31, 2024, however, such appointment is contingent upon Ms. Karban being issued her

initial certifications. Salary level MA, Step 1 of the salary schedule. Be it further resolved that, to the extent

applicable under Education Law Section 3012-d and the accompanying Commissioner’s Regulations, in order

to be considered for tenure, Melissa Karban must have received an APPR rating of effective or highly

effective in three of the four probationary years and must not receive an ineffective in the fourth year.

 

Lahna Greene, who holds an Initial certificate in Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Generalist and an

Initial certificate in Math 7-12, be appointed to the probationary position of a 1.0 FTE Teacher-Special

Education in the tenure area of Special Education (General) for a four year probationary period commencing

September 1, 2020 and ending August 31, 2024.  Salary level MA, Step 1 of the salary schedule.  Be it further

resolved that, to the extent applicable under Education Law Section 3012-d and the accompanying

Commissioner’s Regulations, in order to be considered for tenure, Lahna Greene must have received an

APPR rating of effective or highly effective in three of the four probationary years and must not receive an

ineffective in the fourth year.

 

Colin Noonan, who holds an Initial certificate in Students with Disabilities 1-6, be appointed to the

probationary position of a 1.0 FTE Teacher-Special Education in the tenure area of Special Education

(General) for a four year probationary period commencing September 1, 2020 and ending August 31, 2024.

2024.  Salary level MA, Step 1 of the salary schedule. Be it further resolved that, to the extent applicable

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally funded, state-administered program that reimburses operators who serve free healthy meals to children 18 and under in approved locations.  These meals are provided and are prepared by the Pine Bush School Nutrition Department.  The Pine Bush Central School District will continue to provide no cost meals through August 13, 2020 at two “Children’s Meal Stops”.   Family Church, 510 M & M Road, Middletown NY 10940 and Pine Bush High School, 118 Route 302, Pine Bush NY 12566.

Board Approval of Interim Superintendent Of Schools

                BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education appoints Michael Pacella as Interim Superintendent of Schools during the period of August 7, 2020 through August 9, 2020, and the terms and conditions of Mr. Pacella’s employment shall remain the same.

Approval for Appointment of Superintendent of Schools

         BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Pine Bush Central School District appoints Tim O. Mains as Superintendent of Schools effective August 10, 2020 through June 30, 2024, according to the terms and conditions of a contract, a fully-executed copy of which will be filed with the District Clerk; and further authorizes the School Board President to sign the contract.

Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education as submitted by the

CSE and CPSE Chairpersons and reviewed by Trustee Meier.

Special Education Two-Year Plan – 2020-2021 to 2021-2022

Terrilyn Cohn, Director of Special Education presented an overview of the district’s two-year plan for 2020

2021 to 2021-2022 school years in accordance with Section 200.2© Regulations of the Commissioner of

Education (Part 200–Children with Disabilities).  The plan is available on the district website. Ms. Cohn stated

the district will continue to review on an annual basis to provide the best student placement. It was also

noted we are hoping to expand the Castle Program in its entirety to the middle schools by 2021-2022 for

continued student success. In conclusion, the K-12 teachers were complimented regarding the quality of the

student IEPs. Ms. Cohn was thanked for the presentation of the 2020-2021 to 2021-2022 plan.

 

 

 

Designation / Disposition of Library Books

MOVED by Trustee Robertson, second by Trustee Graessle, that the Board of Education designate and

approve the disposition of the following library  books as submitted at the request of Lauren Conklin, Library

Media Specialist and submitted by Elizabeth Sproul, Principal, as outdated and/or in poor condition beyond

repair, therefore, unusable in accordance with Policy #5250 SUBJECT: Disposition of Surplus Property, and

authorizes the  disposition of the equipment submitted under the direction of Michael Pacella, Assistant

Superintendent for Business.

                        Updates Provided

        Superintendent Tim Mains provided an update pertaining the active cases of Covid 19 in the district office. It was initially thought there were three, but then determined four cases were confirmed. Mr. Mains provided an update of how the situation was reported and addressed.

Health & Welfare Services Contract

MOVED by Trustee Kheiralla, second by Trustee Robertson, that the Board of Education approve the

Health & Welfare Services Contract for the 2019-2020 school year with the Somers Central School District at

a per student cost of $ 1,188.11. The contract covers two (2) students who are Pine Bush residents attending

a non-public school within the Somers CSD for a total contract cost of $ 2,376.22

Approve/Authorize Funding – Terms & Conditions Central Administration (Civil Service)

MOVED by Trustee Robertson, second by Trustee Graessle, that the Board of Education approve and

authorize the terms and funding for the Terms and Conditions of Employment Central Administration – Civil

Service Employees noting the agreement covers a five-year

period, July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2025.

Return to Old/New Business:

Superintendent stated he would send a doodle poll to the board members to select a date to interview

candidates for the Assistant Superintendent of Schools position;

Board member offered congrats to all graduates;

Assistant Superintendent for Instruction offered congrats and thanks to all for making the best of a difficult

situation;

Superintendent spoke about the plans and process for virtual public participation that includes completing

and submitting a form to be read into the record at the board meeting. Administrators will answer questions

as they are able at the time or will get back to the individual at the later time;

Board member asked for update on year books, noting per the superintendent some are late in coming in.

 

Consideration of Executive Session

Hearing no matters for executive session, President Meier asked for a motion to adjourn.

MOVED by Trustee Graessle, second by Trustee Johnson, that the Board of Education adjourn the regular meeting, noting the time at approx. 7:55 PM.
