Summer Enrichment Academies – 2021

Pine Bush High School will be offering the following Summer Enrichment Academies in 2021:   

The Summer Enrichment Academies are offered to students to provide a focused, in-depth study of a particular subject. 

Please note that these academies are funded through grants, donations, and student tuition fees.

All academies in 2021 start on Monday, June 28. The STEM Academy goes through Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Leadership and Law Academy and Fine Art Academy go through Thursday, July 15. The cost for each is $250, with $125 due at the time of registration and the remaining $125 due by June 1. The academies run from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.

We will be using FamilyID as a means of registering online. Descriptions of each academy are included there. The district uses FamilyID to register for athletic programs as well as to sign up for meals.  If you already have a FamilyID account, you may use that same account to register for any program.

The Leadership and Law Academy 

This is an elective program primarily centered on government, economics, and the criminal justice system. This course allows students to learn content through real life applications.

This program runs 14 days, for approximately 105 hours of instruction. Upon successful completion students earn one credit in Government and Economics.

This program is taught by certified social studies teachers, Town of Crawford Police officers and the United States Army. Guest speakers provide enrichment in their specific areas of expertise.

 


The Aviation Academy – Not offered in 2021

The Pine Bush Aviation Academy, in collaboration with the United States Army, and Pratt & Whitney, and “Fly With Kate,” provides students with a basic knowledge of the equipment and operation of aircraft. 

Students will learn the fundamentals of aviation including:  operation of airplanes, meteorology, and introduction to glider flight lessons, instrumentation, avionics systems, communications, and flight simulation. 

This program is taught by a certified flight instructor, a certified math teacher, and an array of aviation guest speakers. This course not only provides enrichment, but prepares students for a range of job opportunities in the aviation field.  Students earn one elective math credit.

 


The Fine Art Academy 

The objective of this academy is to afford high school students the opportunity to earn one elective art credit, while creating original artworks using various artmaking techniques. In this project-based course, the inter-connectivity of digital and traditional artmaking will be explored. Students will learn to combine digital photography, Adobe programs and traditional art mediums in beautiful, original works of art. The Art Academy will provide a full day of instruction in an inspiring artmaking environment, where students are surrounded by other interested and motivated young artists.

Art Academy students have the opportunity to explore multi step art making techniques that are not possible during the regular school year due to time constraints.

 


The STEM Academy 

The STEM Academy is an educational program designed to prepare students for careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). 

 


The Advanced Manufacturing Academy – Not offered in 2021

The Advanced Manufacturing Academy is an educational program designed to give students an accelerated experience in learning CNC programming and operations. The program is divided into a morning session and an afternoon session; students are required to attend one session. Students will participate in hands-on activities throughout the academy completing a variety of projects. Guest speakers will provide enrichment in their specific areas of expertise.

The program provides 30 hours of instruction. Students who successfully complete the academy will earn half a credit in technology.

 


Medical Academy – Not offered in 2021

The Pine Bush Summer Medical Academy is a course that is designed to provide students with an introduction to the various fields and occupations in healthcare.

Dr. Raucci, Orange Regional Medical Center, Crystal Run Healthcare, Pine Bush Ambulance Corp, Mobile Life, ATCs, Touro Medical School, Army Medics, and others will provide students with first-hand knowledge of these fields and the opportunities that each presents.

Spots are on a first come, first serve basis and you must make payment in order to secure your place on the roster. 

If you are interested in taking this course for college credit,  Dominican College tuition of $225 is due the first week of the academy.
(This is in addition to the Academy fee and optional for students who have completed 10th or 11th grade.)

If you would like to be certified in first aid, there is an optional one-day course tentatively planned for Saturday, July 11. There is an additional fee of $20 per student for this optional certification.
