Board acknowledges 160 spring scholar athletes

The Pine Bush Board of Education recognized the 160 students who earned the distinction of scholar athlete for the spring season earlier this month.

In order to be named a scholar athlete, a student must maintain a 90 or above grade point average.

Teams qualify as scholar athlete teams when at least 75 percent of their members maintain a 90 percent grade point average or better. Pine Bush had nine scholar athlete teams in the fall: softball, girls’ lacrosse, girls’ golf, flag football, boys’ lacrosse, unified bowling, baseball, girls track and unified basketball.

“Tonight we celebrate a group of exceptional individuals who have accomplished something truly impressive,” said Jen Evans, the district’s director of physical education, health and athletics. “Our scholar athletes have shown that excellence in the classroom and excellence in sports don’t just coexist. They make each one stronger.”

A group of adults stand and applaud.

Athletes who won Section IX and OCIAA championships and those who qualified for state competition were also acknowledged.

Congratulations to all who work so diligently to excel on the field, the court and the track as well as in the classroom.
