Board recognizes 95 scholar athletes, six scholar athlete teams from winter season

The Pine Bush Board of Education recognized the 95 students who earned the distinction of scholar athlete for the winter season.

In order to be named a scholar athlete, a student must maintain a 90 or above grade point average.

Teams qualify as scholar athlete teams when at least 75 percent of their members maintain a 90 percent grade point average or better. Pine Bush had six scholar athlete teams in the winter.

“Tonight we celebrate a group of exceptional individuals who have accomplished something truly impressive,” said Jen Evans, the district’s director of physical education, health and athletics. “Our scholar athletes have shown that excellence in the classroom and excellence in sports don’t just coexist. They make each one stronger.”

Ms. Evans also mentioned that many of our winter scholar athletes and coaches participate in multiple sports, which explains why some were not present at the meeting.

Athletes who won Section IX and OCIAA championships and those who qualified for state competition were also acknowledged.

Congratulations to all who work so diligently to excel on the field, the court and the track as well as in the classroom.
