Fourth-graders Light It Up with science investigation

CES fourth graders recently completed the “Light it Up!” science investigation with STEAM coach Maria Gabrell.

Given batteries, wires, light bulbs and a switch, students were tasked with building a series circuit in which all three light bulbs would light up. Then students observed what happened when one bulb was removed. Mission accomplished!

The challenge to create a different circuit in which one bulb would shine brighter than the other two was not as simple. (Hint: build a parallel circuit.) The classes enjoyed learning more about electrical energy to supplement the Mystery Science unit on electricity, heat and light. One student even commented, “This was so much fun, even more fun than recess!”

Stay curious, fourth graders!
