Eighty seniors honored for earning Seal of Civic Readiness

The Pine Bush Board of Education recently recognized 80 seniors who earned the Seal of Civic Readiness. The Seal of Civic Readiness is a graduation distinction for students who show both a proficiency in civic knowledge as well as civic participation.

Andrew Britto and Renae Bray, the Pine Bush High School teachers who advised the students in their pursuit of the seal, were at the meeting to congratulate their students and present them with their Seal of Civic Readiness certificates.

There are different ways to earn the seal, including proficiency in civic knowledge: taking social studies classes and advanced classes, earning mastery or proficiency level on Regents exams; and civic participation: participating in civics projects, a service-learning project, completing a civics elective, an extra-curricular participation or work-based learning experience along with an essay/presentation/product, or a Capstone project.

“In all of these paths, the guiding principle is to produce solid American citizens ready to contribute positively to their communities,” Mr. Britto said. “We are extremely proud of these students.”
