Algebra I Next Generation

Algebra I introduces students to the fundamental concepts of algebra through problem solving, mathematical reasoning, and real-world applications. Students will study linear, quadratic, and exponential functions, solve equations and systems of equations, analyze data, work with inequalities, and develop mathematical models. The course emphasizes critical thinking, multiple representations of mathematical ideas, and effective communication of solutions. This course prepares students for the New York State Algebra I Regents Examination. 

Credit varies according to seat time/as does NCAA approval

 

Geometry 

Geometry provides students with a strong foundation in geometric reasoning through a supportive and application-based approach. Students study the foundations of geometry, geometric constructions, rigid transformations, congruence and similarity, right triangle trigonometry, coordinate geometry, angle relationships, perimeter, area, surface area, volume, and solid geometry. The course emphasizes visual reasoning, mathematical communication, and real-world problem solving while allowing additional time to develop conceptual understanding. This course does not culminate in the New York State Geometry Regents Examination and will not prepare students to take it. 

Prerequisite: Students should successfully complete Algebra I before enrolling in this course.

Geometry Next Generation

Geometry Regents is a rigorous course aligned to the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards and prepares students for the New York State Geometry Regents Examination. Students develop logical reasoning and problem-solving skills while studying geometric constructions, rigid transformations, congruence, similarity, formal proofs, coordinate geometry, right triangle trigonometry, circles, area, surface area, volume, and geometric measurement. Students also explore the relationships between algebra and geometry through mathematical modeling and real-world applications, with an emphasis on precision, communication, and critical thinking.

Recommendation: Students are strongly encouraged to earn at least an 80 in NYS Algebra I Next Gen to maximize their success in this course.

Algebra II

Algebra II provides students with continued study of advanced algebraic concepts in a supportive learning environment. Students review foundational algebra skills before exploring functions, linear, exponential, logarithmic, quadratic, polynomial, rational, and complex number concepts. The course emphasizes building procedural fluency, strengthening problem-solving skills, and applying mathematics to real-world situations at a pace that allows students to develop confidence and mastery. This course does not culminate in the New York State Algebra II Regents Examination and will not prepare students to take it.

Prerequisite: Geometry or Geometry Next Gen

Algebra II Next Generation

Algebra II Regents is an advanced mathematics course aligned to the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards and prepares students for the New York State Algebra II Regents Examination. Students extend their understanding of mathematics by studying function notation, linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; complex numbers; sequences and series; probability and statistics; mathematical modeling; and solving systems of equations. The course emphasizes multiple representations of functions, analytical reasoning, and the application of mathematics to real-world situations while preparing students for college level mathematics.

Recommendation: Students are strongly encouraged to earn at least an 80 in NYS Geometry Next Gen to maximize their success in this course.

Consumer Math

This course is offered to non-college bound students as an elective math course. Students will receive one of three math credits needed to complete their graduation requirements. After completing the New York state mandated Algebra I course, students will have the option to take this course to learn basic math skills used in everyday life. The skills taught in this unit are linked to the New York State Standards.

Technology and Our Future

Humans and Machines: Who’s Really in Charge? Don’t just live with technology. Learn to question it, shape it, and use it to create your future. Technology isn’t just apps and gadgets – it’s shaping your attention and your opportunities. This class helps you see behind the screen: who makes tech, who benefits, who gets left out, and what you can do about it. You’ll experiment, debate and create projects that actually matter. By the end, you’ll have built real artifacts, run investigations and presented your own ideas for a better digital future. Topics include AI ethics and literacy, consumer privacy and protections, technology’s health impacts, digital currency and fintech, and global tech sustainability.

For students in grades 11 and 12

College Pre-Calculus 

This course develops the real number system with an emphasis on sketching curves with and without a graphing utility. Topics studied include polynomial and rational functions, trigonometric functions and exponential functions, conic sections, vectors in the plane sequences, and mathematical induction. Complex numbers, applications of trigonometry, graph trigonometry. 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra II.

College Algebra / College Trigonometry

This year-long college mathematics sequence is designed for students who plan to continue their study of mathematics at the college level. Students develop a strong foundation in advanced algebra while expanding their understanding of trigonometric concepts and mathematical modeling. Topics include functions and their representations, polynomial and rational functions, conic sections, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, matrices and determinants, trigonometric functions and their graphs, right triangle applications, trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric functions, oblique triangles, vectors, and complex numbers in trigonometric form. Emphasis is placed on algebraic reasoning, analytical thinking, and preparing students for future college mathematics courses. Students will be required to purchase textbooks for this sequence.

Important: College Algebra (first semester) and Trigonometry (second semester) are paired courses and must be taken consecutively as a full-year sequence. Students may not enroll in only one semester.

Prerequisites: Meet the Orange County Community College criteria and Algebra II Next Gen

College Calculus I (Full Year)

Topics covered in this course include algebraic functions and transformations, trigonometric functions and identities, limits, continuity, derivatives, implicit differentiation, Role’s Theorem and Mean Value Theorem, curve sketching, the definite integral, and Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Students must successfully complete College Trigonometry, pay a college fee, and purchase a textbook to participate. College Calculus I is offered as a semester course and as a full year course. Students interested in taking the AP Calculus AB exam in May, may check with the teacher to obtain additional study materials and are responsible for notifying the AP Coordinator and paying the testing fee.

College Calculus I / College Calculus II

This year-long college mathematics sequence provides students with a comprehensive introduction to differential and integral calculus while preparing them for advanced college mathematics. In calculus I, students study algebraic and trigonometric functions, limits, continuity, derivatives, implicit differentiation, Rolle’s Theorem, the Mean Value Theorem, curve sketching, definite and indefinite integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. The course continues second semester with Calculus II – applications of derivatives and integrals, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions, as well as techniques for finding the area between curves. Emphasis is placed on mathematical reasoning, analytical problem solving, and the application of calculus concepts. Important: College Calculus I (first semester) and College Calculus II (second semester) are paired courses and must be taken consecutively as a full-year sequence. Students may not enroll in only one semester.

College Elementary Statistics

This course focuses on major concepts and tools used for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students learn about probability, frequency distributions, mean and standard deviation, the binomial distribution, the normal distribution, hypothesis testing, samples from a finite population, regression and correlation, confidence intervals, and chi square tests.

Prerequisite course: Algebra II Next Gen or department chair approval

AP Computer Science Principles

AP Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving. Together, these aspects of the course make up a rigorous and rich curriculum that aims to broaden participation in computer science.
