Childcare available for healthcare workers, first responders starting March 25

Pursuant to the NYS Governor’s Executive Order 202.4, school districts are required to establish plans for the care of children of essential health care workers and first responders, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, LPNs and nurse assistants or laboratory personnel.  First responders may include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers and firefighters.

The Pine Bush Central School District is partnering with the Middletown YMCA to provide this service to the parents that qualify for this childcare beginning Wednesday, March 25.  The parameters of the program are as follows:

  • The location will be at the Liberty Center for Youth at the Liberty Street Schoo, 6-10 Liberty Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
  • Cost: $250 per child per week for children aged 4-12.
  • The program will run from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • They will need at least 10 children to run the program.  They will have capacity for 100 children, with 10 children per classroom with two staff.
  • Children will be screened upon reporting to the facility by a medical professional on a daily basis.
  • Emphasis will be on social distancing and the classrooms will be sanitized on a daily basis.
  • The program will provide some academic activities, arts and crafts, games and physical education activities.

For more information, parents should  email the director, Irene Rumsey, at irumsey@middletownymca.org. She will email applications to  interested parents that qualify. They will have to provide copies of their work ID badges.

Interested parents may also call  Rumsey at (914) 443-1976.  However, that is her personal cellphone, so please use your discretion and try email first.

We are very grateful to the YMCA for providing this essential plan for childcare!
