Dear Pine Bush School Community:
The Pine Bush Central School District will pause its in-person, hybrid instruction on Nov. 30, just after the Thanksgiving break, and resume on Jan. 19, 2021. Instruction will be fully remote for this period of time.
This “holiday pause” is being done out of an abundance of caution and based on the recommendation of the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH). Please be assured the decision was made after thoughtful review of current conditions, the projections made for the upcoming holidays and in consultation with the OCDOH. The entire document from the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Irina Gelman, is also posted on our website.
As you are probably aware, the COVID-19 positivity rate in our area is surging. The steady increase in cases across the county is exceeding rates we had last spring at the beginning of the pandemic, according to the OCDOH. This is an alarming trend. As a district, we are addressing the impact the pandemic is
having on our schools and community. Going totally remote at this time is a proactive approach by the district to keep our students and staff safe, as well as our greater Pine Bush community.
Our faculty and staff are fully prepared for this scenario and will continue to do everything necessary to ensure your child(ren)’s academic success. Our buildings will remain open, and our faculty and staff will remain responsive to your students’ needs. All student and teacher daily instructional schedules will
stay the same. Elementary students will follow their A/B schedules and Grades 7-12 will follow their period schedules.
Please note: CTEC students and Orange-Ulster BOCES special education classes will learn remotely from Nov. 30 through Dec. 11. They will have in-person, hybrid learning from Dec. 14 to Dec. 23. Transportation will be provided by the district.
For your information, here is the instructional schedule for the coming weeks:
- Nov. 23 – Mobile Monday regular schedule
- Nov. 24 – Tuesday in-person, hybrid learning
- Nov. 25 – Wednesday half-day in-person, hybrid learning
Grades 6-12 dismissal at 10:30 a.m.
Grades K-5 dismissal at 11:30 a.m.
- Nov. 26 to Nov. 27: Schools closed for Thanksgiving break
- Nov. 30 to Dec. 23: The district will operate on a full remote schedule
- Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2021: Schools closed for winter break
- Jan. 4, 2021 to Jan. 15, 2021: The district will operate on a full remote schedule.
- Jan. 18, 2021: Schools closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday
- Jan. 19, 2021: The district will resume in-person, hybrid learning
Boys swimming, which was scheduled to begin on Nov. 30, has been postponed until Jan. 19, 2021.
***All other winter sports are on hold until further notice.
Of course, we will watch the trends and evaluate constantly. If we feel it is safe to go back to in-person, hybrid learning before Jan. 19, we will. Please know we are committed to having our students back in the buildings for hybrid learning. We know that is best for them.
We also know these have been stressful times for everyone, particularly our families who have been faced with illness and quarantine. We are extremely grateful for your continued support and cooperation as we deal with COVID-19 and its effects on our school and local community.
Making this decision now gives our families time to make the necessary accommodations for the new schedule. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s building principal and/or teacher. Please read the information below which provides details about programs that the district has put in place to support all of our families during this challenging time.
Childcare Options Available
For parents and guardians in need of childcare options during this “holiday pause,” we have confirmed that spaces are available in the following local childcare programs:

The week of Nov. 23, there will be only one food distribution day, Tuesday, Nov. 24. Parents and guardians may pick up meals at either Pine Bush High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at Circleville Middle School, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. That is only for Thanksgiving week.
During the holiday pause, food will be distributed each week except for the week of winter break, from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1. The regular schedule for meal distribution will resume on Jan. 5, 2021.
The schedule for the weeks of Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, 14 and 21 is:
Pine Bush High School:
- Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Thursday, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (no food distribution on Dec. 24)
Circleville Middle School:

We are thankful for the on-going support we receive from our school families and the entire Pine Bush community. We are grateful for your resilience and understanding in these challenging times. We thank you for the trust you place in us to provide your child(ren) with an exceptional education. None of these
decisions are easy and weigh heavily on my heart.
My best wishes to all of our families for a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.
