“Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and don’t give up.”  –Rachel Corrie

Welcome to Circleville Elementary School! Our school is a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade building with approximately 525 students and 90 staff members.

Children at CES are provided with a safe, caring learning environment in order to reach their fullest potential. To accomplish this, our educators are committed to providing instruction that is engaging, relevant and meets the varied learning styles of their students. Teachers develop creative and innovative learning opportunities that are differentiated for meaningful study, thus providing all students with activities designed to challenge and extend their thinking based upon their level of need.

Our curriculum is diverse and rich. The heart of Circleville Elementary School’s program is our English Language Arts curriculum. As students need to use multiple strategies to become proficient readers, we employ the best practices of current research in literacy to provide our students with a balanced literacy program. Phonological strategies as well as vocabulary study are used to develop and expand reading skills. Students write on a daily basis with a particular emphasis on expository writing. Whenever possible, the other core subject areas of math, science and social studies, are taught through the use of literature. In addition, our students are exposed to a variety of the unified arts including physical education, art, musical instruction (theory, vocal and instrumental) and library/media studies.

Our character education program is embedded in the use of a positive behavior support system that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student social behaviors to create a positive school environment. To this end, our four school-wide expectations (Show respect, Treat other with kindness and be bully-free, Always be safe, and Ready and responsible) are taught, practiced and modeled in all areas of school life. By focusing on positive behavior, we create an environment where teachers can teach and students can learn, thus improving the capacity for academic achievement.

Mirroring the district’s goal of educating the whole child, our building theme this year is “Believe & Achieve,” which is symbolized by the monarch butterfly. Each fall, monarch butterflies make an unbelievable journey to Mexico.  How is it they travel all of those miles?  They focus on their goal and not the difficulties they may encounter.  They take each day as it comes and just keep flying.  It is this sense of determination that we hope to instill in our students so they come to know that anything they want to accomplish is possible.

Finally, strong parental and community support enhance the quality of education at C.E.S. We invite you to visit our school often. Please come meet us, talk to us and volunteer your time and energy. Join the PTA! We know your involvement, combined with the efforts of our outstanding faculty, will make this school year a rich and rewarding one for your child.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
Amy Brockner
